The short answer

Malaysia’s headline Consumer Price Index was 1.9% higher in Aug 2026 than in the same month a year earlier. The month-on-month change was 0.3%. These are two different comparisons.

What it means

CPI tracks the cost of a representative basket of goods and services. A positive inflation rate means the basket became more expensive, even if the rate is lower than before.
